LAMDA King's House Moorlands- Summer Term '25- Block of 9 Sessions
LAMDA Examinations are coming to King’s House Moorlands!
At Huzzah we say ‘You can never have too many strings to your bow’. Especially if they are confidence based strings. That’s why we wanted to let everyone know that Mrs Howard, the drama teacher at King’s House Moorlands and her team will be teaching private LAMDA lessons. We believe that, in the right hands, they are an educational and confidence building journey for your child to go on.
What is LAMDA?
LAMDA is the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. They are one of the oldest Drama schools and they decided it would be excellent if progress in the arts could be graded in the same way in which playing a musical instrument is, so they created their examinations for young people. What we love about LAMDA is not only that your child’s confidence and communication skills will soar but also that the exam grades count towards all important UCAS points.
LAMDA split the Dramatic Arts into these categories - Acting, Speaking Prose & Verse, and Public Speaking.
Which subject is right for my child?
You may know straight away what your child will want to work on, however no fear if not! This is something we can decide together in your child’s first lesson. Here is a bit about each subject so you can be mulling over which would make your child’s heart sing.
Public Speaking - Your child will research and write their own speech and present it to an audience. The main focus with this is helping your child to engage an audience and work on techniques to support the voice.
Speaking Prose & Verse- Your child will work on bringing poems and texts to life using their voice and their body. They will also delve deeper and learn how writers use words to show thought and how to hold focus on stage.
Acting - Your child will be given a LAMDA based text/scene to work on towards their exam. They will explore characterisation and show these scenes to an audience. They will really hone their imagination skills in these lessons as well as vocal clarity, motor skills, awareness of the body and confidence.
What will my child do in their lessons?
After deciding which category of LAMDA they want to focus in on, your child will work each week on the foundation skills to enable them to be confident in themselves and their abilities in the arts. They will have a LAMDA approved text to work with and when they are happy and confident with their chosen piece, will be entered into their first examination. Your child will be fully supported by our amazing Huzzah Director, Mrs Howard and Mr Ashman at all times and they will make sure that this experience is a fun, exciting journey of personal growth.
If your child has already started their LAMDA journey elsewhere, we will ensure that they are entered into the appropriate grade exam.
When will my child be ready to take the world by storm and take their exam?
What we have learnt is that every child is different, so we will keep you fully up to date with your child’s progress and anything that can be done between lessons to fully support your child on their LAMDA journey. When they are ready, we will guide them through the easiest way to take their exam at school.
Fees 9 Private LAMDA Lessons - £256.50
Lessons will begin w/c 28th April and will end w/c 30th June. Your child’s 30 minute private session will be scheduled within the school day.
This fee does not cover the examination fee, approximately £70 per exam. This will be in the first week of July at school.
